The Olympic history is full of results that in no way reflect the difference in strength between the jumpers. For those who have lived a while, you will remember the stroke of luck that Polish Fortunas had during the 1972 Olympics.
Now, FIS has introduced a trial arrangement where the good/bad conditions will, to a certain degree, be compensated for with +/- points. But there is no consolation for Anders Jacobsen that it this was, most probably, the last individual Olympic ski-jumping competition that has been held without using the new point-calculation system.
Weather conditions aside, there was nothing that threatened Simon Amman in yesterday`s large hill competition—an impressive showing of the sympathetic Swiss. The veteran, Adam Malysz, showed solid jumping and took a well-deserved silver medal. Gregor Schlierenzauer took the last place on the podium in the chance-competition in Whistler.
To the powerful gentlemen in FIS: introduce the new point system on a permanent basis immediately!
